How do you know if you are being catfished? This is the question NFL football player Manti Te O wish he had the answer to several years back. The former Notre Dame Fighting Irish great and current San Diego Charger Linebacker was a victim of one of the most notorious catfishing episodes in the world. It went extremely viral, and the plot was reported on all news outlets. It certainly raised questions as he went into the NFL Draft as well. (He is a great football player, it’s worth noting.)

How Did Manti Te O Get Catfished?
You probably won’t believe this video your about to see, but it’s worth watching. This interview goes so in depth to the football player, that it’s disheartening knowing he fell for this hoax.
Well, if that doesn’t break your heart, and also raise some questions, I don’t know what does. This is one of the most bizarre stories ever. I don’t care how you whack it up, but there are two questions I’d like to get solved. The problem is, they never will be.
- Was this Manti Te O promoting himself and keeping himself in the headlines ahead of the draft?
- Was he really that stupid for falling in love with someone he never met?
Certainly, he was asked these questions, as well as many others, on his way through interviews with NFL football teams. He was drafted, and drafted high, but could he have gone higher? Did his bizarre story scare away potential NFL suitors? Did it cost him millions of dollars?
This was the story of the year leading into largest game of his career, the BCS Bowl versus #1 Alabama. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish lost that game in a miserable fashion, 42-14. It wasn’t even a game, as Alabama jumped out to a 35-0 lead.
Ronaiah Tuiasosopo was the person behind the entire ordeal. He sat down with Dr. Phil and told him he “killed” the fake romance because the football player said he “didn’t need her.” He also mentioned he was talking to 4 other women on the chat service Skype. This angered Ronaiah, who took on the persona as if it was very real.
He had phone conversations with Te O and the whole nine yards. This was very real. Very scary. Very bizarre. Don’t let it happen to you.
Insist on video chat. Don’t be a victim.
